La Fondation Tony Elumelu (TEF) situé à Lagos, l’Agence Française de Développent (AFD) et l’Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique au Nigéria (IFRA Nigeria), ont signé un protocole d’échange lié au programme « Supporting Entrepreneurship in Africa » de la TEF.
L’accord prévoit la sélection d’un(e) étudiant(e) en Sciences politiques ou Economie de niveau master, inscrit(e) dans un établissement d’enseignement supérieur français, pour effectuer un travail de terrain dans plusieurs pays africains francophones et anglophones (Nigéria, Cameroun, Côte d’Ivoire) à partir de janvier 2019. L’étudiant(e) sélectionné(e) sera notamment amené(e) à évaluer les retombées du programme « Supporting Entrepreneurship in Africa » à travers un échantillon de bénéficiaires dans les 3 pays cibles.

The Mastercard foundation and Sciences Po Paris (France) have launched their new Mastercard Foundation Scholars program. This scholarship program aims at sponsoring a number of African students to pursue master studies in Sciences Po Paris. The scholarship program concerns various degrees at Sciences Po, including Law, International Affairs, Urban studies, Management and Innovation.

Thanks to the Institut Francais and the French Embassy in Nigeria, IFRA organised a series of lectures by Cynthia Fleury, philosopher and psychoanalyst, professor at the National Center for Arts and Crafts (CNAM). On Friday, 20th of September, Prof. Fleury was welcome at our cherished Draper’s hall at the Institute of African Studies in the University of Ibadan for a challenging lecture entitled “Courage in politics”.

On Wednesday 5th of September 2018, IFRA was very pleased to host Mr. Abdulbasit Kassim, PhD student in Religion at Rice University in Texas. Mr. Kassim is the co-author with Michael Nwankpa of The Boko Haram Reader. From Nigerian Preachers to the Islamic State published in 2017 by Hurst Publishers. The book launch was organised at 10am in Draper’s Hall at the Institute of African Studies in the University of Ibadan.

IFRA was pleased to organise a research training seminar on the 25th of May in our library led by Mrs. Chrystel Oloukoi entitled “Nocturnal Fieldwork and ‘Assisted’ Field Research”. She is a PhD student in African and African-American Studies at Harvard University. A geographer by training, her work has notably addressed power relations in nocturnal contexts in Lagos and Johannesburg. She has conducted field research in Ikeja (Lagos State) and Maboneng (Johannesburg) during which the issue of research assistantship was particularly sensitive and critical.

IFRA-Nigeria together with the French Embassy in Nigeria are offering series of fieldwork grants for Master students enrolled in a selection of Nigerian universities. The goal is to help Master students with coping with the financial costs associated with field research, including transport fees to research locations, accommodations, interview transcription, research assistantship and others. Each grant will be worth 500 euros.
