Talk with Deng Zheyuan - “Ahmadiyya and the Aroloya Mosque Case in colonial Lagos”

CarousselDengIFRA-Nigeria organized  a talk with Deng Zheyuan, PhD Student from the Center for Global Islamic Studies, University of Florida, on the theme: “Ahmadiyya and the Aroloya Mosque Case in colonial Lagos”. The event took place on Tuesday 15th February at 4pm, in Drapers Hall in the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan.

 

As part of his project on Ahmadiyya and urban spaces in Lagos, this talk focused on the case of Aroloya Mosque dispute in 1934. Approaching urban space as object of contestations involving complicated power relations, the paper used newspaper reports, colonial archives, and multiple historical accounts, to reveal the diverse religious landscape and power dynamics behind the mosque dispute case.​
