On 26 September 2019, Dr. Cyrielle Maingraud-Martinaud hosted a 2-hour workshop at IFRA-Nigeria themed on "How to answer a call for paper? Choosing a title and writing an abstract". The workshop focused on how best to understand, analyse and respond to a call for paper for an academic conference.

IFRA training workshop: “Making the most of newspapers as sources: critical reflections and research methodologies” with Dr. Katharina Oke at OAU

Date: Thursday 11 of July 2019

Location: Obafemi Awolowo University

On Thursday 11 of July 2019, IFRA-Nigeria hosted a methodological workshop at Obafemi Awolowo University entitled “Making the most of newspapers as sources: critical reflections and research methodologies”. The workshop was animated by Dr Katharina Oke (Kings College London, UK) and held at The Faculty of Art of Obafemi Awolowo University. The event was facilitated by Dr. Titus Olusegun (IFRA fellows and lecturer at the dep. of music, OAU).

IFRA training workshop: ‘Introduction to Mendeley programme’ with Chrystel Oloukoï and Julien Roland

Date: Wednesday 10th of July 2019

Location: IFRA-Nigeria's library

On Wednesday 10th of July, IFRA-Nigeria hosted a methodological seminar at IFRA-Nigeria’s library, at the Institute of African Studies (University of Ibadan). The workshop was facilitated by Chrystel Oloukoï (PhD candidate, Harvard University, USA) and Julien Roland (PhD candidate, Kent State University, USA) and consisted of an introduction and short-training to the computer programme Mendeley.

Date: June 7, 2019

Location: BIC Ijomah Centre, Department of Sociology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka

On Friday 7th of June 2019, IFRA-Nigeria was welcome at the BIC Ijomah Centre, Department of Sociology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by Prof. Egodi Uchendu and Dr. Chidi Ugwu from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

Dr. Emilie Guitard and Clementine Chazal hosted two methodological workshops on “How to apply for scholarships, postdocs and other academic positions in Europe”.

IFRA training workshop: Qualitative Methods: "Constructing your research object, choosing your cases" by Come Salvaire

Date: Monday 3rd of June  

Place: IFRA library (the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan). 

On June 3rd, Côme Salvaire hosted a 4 hours workshop (divided into two parts) at IFRA-Nigeria, entitled “Qualitative Methods: constructing your research object, choosing your cases”. This workshop aimed at students of sociology or political science looking to develop qualitative methods skills.

IFRA training workshop: “Applying for scholarships, postdoc and academic positions in Europe” in ABU

Date: 2nd May 2019

Place: Institute for Development Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

On Thursday 2 May 2019, Dr Elodie Apard (director of IFRA Nigeria), Sara Panata (PhD student at Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne) and Dr Vincent Hiribarren (King's College London) travelled to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, to host a methodological workshop entitled “Applying for a scholarship, a post-doc and an academic position in Europe”. The workshop was held at the Institute for Development Research and Training (IDR) and kindly organised by its director, Prof. Hudu. A. Ayuba.

IFRA training workshop: “Nocturnal Fieldwork and ‘Assisted’ Field Research” by Chrystel Oloukoi

Date: 25th of May

Location: IFRA-Nigeria's library

IFRA was pleased to organise a research training seminar on the 25th of May in our library led by Mrs. Chrystel Oloukoi entitled “Nocturnal Fieldwork and ‘Assisted’ Field Research”. She is a PhD student in African and African-American Studies at Harvard University. A geographer by training, her work has notably addressed power relations in nocturnal contexts in Lagos and Johannesburg. She has conducted field research in Ikeja (Lagos State) and Maboneng (Johannesburg) during which the issue of research assistantship was particularly sensitive and critical.
