Date: 2nd May 2019
Place: Institute for Development Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
On Thursday 2 May 2019, Dr Elodie Apard (director of IFRA Nigeria), Sara Panata (PhD student at Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne) and Dr Vincent Hiribarren (King's College London) travelled to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, to host a methodological workshop entitled “Applying for a scholarship, a post-doc and an academic position in Europe”. The workshop was held at the Institute for Development Research and Training (IDR) and kindly organised by its director, Prof. Hudu. A. Ayuba.
Based on their respective professional experience in France, Italy and the UK, Dr Elodie Apard, Sara Panata, and Dr Vincent Hiribarren taught a class of 30 postgraduate students chosen among the best ones in each department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
The first part of the workshop dealt with the presentation of an application (proofreading, references, email etiquette). The presenters subsequently discussed the best ways to structure CVs and showed the best practices to write cover letters. They devoted the last part of the workshop to the research statements required by British and French universities.
