355336866 10229532780160045 6452569382218013933 nThe 7th Annual Lagos Studies Association Conference took place between June 20 and June 24, 2023. IFRA-Nigeria is a sponsor of this important event. On the 20th of June  Barbara Morovich, director of IFRA-Nigeria, and Cyrielle Maingraud-Martinaud, researcher and deputy Director of IFRA-Nigeria animated an event titled “Interrogating the Dynamics of Knowledge Production in North / South Research Contexts”. This event constituted an opportunity to discuss the consequences of knowledge production in transnational collaborations set-up.

What happens to the knowledge that's produced when research projects are transnational - being funded by a foreign organisation or bringing together researchers from West Africa and the "Global North"? Interrogating the case of IFRA-Nigeria, which has been working in Nigeria for more than 30 years, and bringing together perspectives from other collaborative projects that took place in the last years, this roundtable aimed at critically engage the dynamics of collaborations, the injunctions from funding bodies to 'participation' and 'co-construction' but also the challenges of these kinds of projects with reference to gender, age, race or postcolonial relations of researchers. Amidst intense discussions on the decolonization of knowledge and epistemologies, and building on already strong conversations on the inequalities and dynamics of domination, the discutants looked to interrogate (how) North/South transnational research projects are still relevant and how to develop alternative ways of collaboration.
