IFRA & Thursday Film Series – International Women’s Day event

345279169 1321527795118941 7180887753572178622 nOn the 23rd of March, for the International Women's Day, IFRA and TFS teamed-up again to organise a screening and discussion on the theme of “Embracing equity and challenging biases”. The discussion was followed by a screening of ‘The Eagle Huntress’ a 2016 documentary that follows Aishol-pan, a 13-year-old girl who overcame gender barriers to accomplish her ambition. The event was part of the Safe space Series.

IFRA-Nigeria’s director opened the event. A representative of the TFS also presented what embracing equity entailed, including fostering allyship with people in marginalised groups, intersectionality, working towards breaking barriers through advocacy, and the importance of inclusive language as a powerful tool for promoting a welcoming and respectful community.

Ms Saheedat Tobiloba Adetayo, a Doctoral Researcher, a Social Impact, and Sustainable Development Advocate and the Executive Director of Pad A Queen Initiative was an invited speaker. She gave a talk and interactive session on Embracing Equity and Challenging Biases. She highlighted the differences between Equality and Equity and the necessary shift towards more equity.

The post-screening discussion was also engaging and centered around the goals of the TFS programming for Women's History Month, including raising awareness, challenging bias, breaking stereotypes, influencing behavior, and celebrating women’s achievements.
