Call for Applications: 6-Months Post-doctoral Position in Humanities and Social Sciences at IFRA-Nigeria
IFRA-Nigeria invites application for a full-time post-doctoral position starting on March 1, 2025. The role will be fixed until August 31, 2025.
Main responsibilities:
- Coordinate and follow up research and research-action projects initiated by IFRA-Nigeria in coordination with Nigerians cultural institutions.
- Participate in research training activities and enhance IFRA-Nigeria’s pedagogical activities, such as the methodological seminar and the conferences.
- Participate in scientific activities, particularly through organizing scientific events (panel, seminar, and workshop) independently or alongside the director of IFRA-Nigeria.
- Promote scientific partnerships by networking IFRA-Nigeria with Nigerian, West-African or International researchers, in line with the candidate’s personal research project.
- Contribute to IFRA-Nigeria’s scientific output, by developing a consistent and innovative personal research project that aligns with IFRA-Nigeria scientific axes, potentially leading to scientific publications.
Please note:
This position is full-time and requires a high level of availability. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage a demanding workload, balancing individual research activities with research coordination and administrative tasks.
The position cannot be combined with other regular activities or with a permanent teaching appointment
Eligibility requirements:
- Have completed a PhD in the Humanities and Social Sciences (anthropology, sociology, history, political science).
- Have a strong fieldwork experience and demonstrate expertise in ethnographic methods.
- Have a meaningful pedagogical experience with Master’s and PhD students.
- Be able to carry out a research project grounded on a long-term and an empirical approach.
- Dedicate exclusively to the activities of the position and ensure regular presence at the IFRA-Nigeria office.
- Be fully available by March 1, 2025, since the job start date cannot be postponed.

Selection Process:
After an initial selection based on applications, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview in January at IFRA-Nigeria, Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan. No Zoom interviews will be offered.
