Call for application - Creating story maps using ArcGIS

ArcGIS logoAs part of both its programs on Digital Humanities and the Project of Engagement of Digital tools in the Conservation and Dissemination of Nigeria's Urban Archaeological Heritage, IFRA-Nigeria, in collaboration with the Ife-Sungbo Archaeological team has launched a research project in urban archaeology using digital tools for the conservation and dissemination of the archaeological heritage of Ile-Ife. Drawing from the fields of Digital Humanities, Archaeology, and Anthropology, the objective is to map out, research, and analyze the different types and spread of the medieval pavement found in Ile-Ife. In this context, IFRA-Nigeria is issuing the below call for application.

Since its inception, the project's team has been engaging in analyzing the type and construction model of the various pavements found in Ile-Ife and using the ArcGIS software to map out and reference pavement sites around the city of Ile-Ife. The project's next objective is to produce StoryMaps - a feature of ArcGIS that allows for a narration bringing together various sources of knowledge (texts, photos, videos, 3D models, sound, etc.), on specific sites of cultural and heritage significance in Ile-Ife

The project is looking for researchers interested in:

- receiving a training in the StoryMap feature of ArcGIS ;

- producing a short StoryMap about one of the Cultural and Heritage sites in Ile-Ife

The training will take place on the 13th of March 2024 to introduce the researchers to the possibilities offered by the StoryMaps feature. Researchers will then have 5 weeks to gather data and build the StoryMap on the seleted site. Selected applicants will receive a transport allowance and meals will be covered for the two days of the training. After validation from the team, they will also be compensated for the StoryMap they will produce with the lump sum of ₦250,000.
