Another step in the conversation on Art Restitution

 Pointof View

On Tuesday 25 April, Dr Vincent Hiribarren participated in a panel discussion entitled 'The Restitution Debate: Diaspora Affairs, Migration and the Reinvention of Identity'.

The discussion was part of the 'Point of View' talks organised by the Ben Enwonwu Foundation in collaboration with the Society of Nigerian Artists and hosted by Alliance Française of Lagos.

The speakers (Kofo Adeleke, Azu Nwagbogu, Vincent Hiribarren and Peter Okotor) discussed the global calls and debates for the repatriation of looted art to Nigeria, more specifically the renowned Benin bronzes. The talks also sought to discuss current efforts in this direction, Nigeria’s state of preparedness in receiving and preserving them as well as its impact on Nigerian cultural heritage.
