Memorializing African displacement: Heritage and resistance on the rims of the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean

On the 22nd of May 2017, IFRA Nigeria is happy to invite you to our next guest lecture delivered by Dr. Dominique Somda, faculty member at the International Honors Program of Brattleboro, Vermont.
A sociocultural anthropologist, Dr. Somda holds a PhD from the University of Paris-Nanterre. She was a visiting professor at the University of Pensylvannia and Reed College. She has also held visiting positions at the Fondations des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris and the London School of Economics. Her work focuses on every day practices and inequality. Her research interests have led her to engage with the anthropology of slavery, democracy, Christianity, feminist and postcolonial studies, with a regional focus on the African continent, and more specifically Madagascar.
Her lecture will be entitled “Memorializing African displacement: Heritage and resistance on the rims of the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean”. It will take place at 2pm in Draper’s Hall, Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan. All are welcome and attendance is free.
