IFRA-Nigeria/IAS Distinguished Personality Lecture: Spaces of Insurgent Citizenship
FRA-Nigeria and the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, will welcome Professor Rufus Akinyele on Thursday, 23th of April 2015 at 12:00 pm – 14:00 pm, at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, to give a Distinguished Personality Lecture entitled “Spaces of Insurgent Citizenship”.
The general public is cordially invited.
Abstract
This paper examines the controversy generated by the deportation of beggars and destitutes from Lagos to their states of origin in 2014. The central argument is that although the public outcry tended to suggest that the action of the Lagos State Government was strange, the practice can be traced back to the colonial period. The paper suggests the problem can be managed through good governance.
