Online Seminar in Geography - Wed 7th July - 5pm (WAT)
Dr Claire Simonneau (UMR Géographie-Cités) presented her research and fieldwork on the theme: 'Who owns the West African urban corridor? Urbanisation dynamics and local land grabs. Insights from Benin.'
Dr Claire Simonneau is a geographer and an urban planner. She is currently an associated researcher at Géographie-cités lab and a postdoc fellow at IFRA-Nigeria, beneficiary of our postdoc Atlas programme. She holds a Ph.D in urban planning from the University of Montreal, Canada. Her Ph.D thesis concerns urban management and governance in Benin, through a case study on municipal urban cadaster implementation.
Her current research interests relate to urbanization dynamics, land markets, and the right to adequate housing in the Global South, with a focus on the urban corridor Abidjan-Lagos and the South of Benin.
