2012 International Conference: Patrimony, Memory and Identity in West Africa

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ibadan, IFRA-Nigeria holds a three-day international conference on the following topic:

Patrimony, Memory and Identity in West Africa

This conference will take place from July 3-5, 2012, at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan. It will bring together fourty-five scholars from Nigeria, France, USA, Togo, Benin Republic and Cameroon.

In the nine panels that make up the conference, the concepts of heritage, conservation and patrimony will be discussed in an interdisciplinary perspective. The links between spaces, logics and processes of constructing identities will also be addressed through historical analysis, political reading or anthropological interpretation of these phenomena.
