IFRA-Nigeria partners with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice to organize the 7th Annual Conference — 25, 26, 27 March 2013 — at Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria
IFRA-Nigeria participated in the 7th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), organized at Ado-Ekiti (Ekiti State, Nigeria), 25–27 March.
The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, chaired the event, which involved scholars, professors, PhD students, and members of security agencies involved in conflict resolution in Nigeria.
The main theme of the conference—“Defining And Rethinking Peace And Security Systems In Transitional Democracies”—aimed to address issues of governance, democratic processes, and involvement of the state in the security challenges faced by recent democracies in Africa and elsewhere. The speakers also discussed the technical and human resources capacity developed in the last few years by the Nigerian authorities to fight against political, social and religious violence. More than twenty IFRA research fellows participated in the event as speakers and presented their papers over the three days. The financial and intellectual commitment of IFRA-Nigeria to Peace and Conflict programs in Nigeria was outlined by the National President of the SPSP, Dr. Willie Eselabor, and by Prof. Isaac O. Albert, Chairman, Board of Trustees during a State diner organized by the Ekiti State Government on March 25. During the event, Dr. Gérard Chouin, scientific director of IFRA-Nigeria was admitted into fellowship (fspsp) of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice.
