Dr Elodie Apard is an historian who studies political and religious dynamics in Niger and Nigeria, with a focus on biographical and prosopographic approaches. She holds a PhD in African History from University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and worked on Franco-Nigerien political relations and the transmission of the colonial State in Niger for her doctorate.

From 2012 to 2015, she was a researcher at IFRA, in charge of the institute's branch in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria before being relocated to Ibadan. In 2016, she became the director of IFRA, until 2020. 

She led several interdisciplinary and collective projects on transnational movements, including religious circulations between Nigeria and Niger (TransIslam), the transnational dimensions of Boko Haram and other criminal phenomena, such as human trafficking networks for sexual exploitation between Nigeria and Europe. She is currently co-investigator of the ESRC project "Hidden narratives on transnational organised crimes in West Africa":

She has published articles in Politique africaine and Afrique contemporaine and has recently edited Transnational Islam: circulation of religious ideas, actors and practices between Niger and Nigeria (African Studies Center/Leiden, 2020).
