IMPORTANT INFORMATON / UPDATE

In accordance with the latest government statement regarding measures to contain the COVID-19 virus, IFRA-Nigeria and the Alliance Française of Ibadan have decided to cancel the event : Cafe Science themed on “Religious, social and criminal groups in trafficking of Nigerian girls and women” which was supposed to be held on Friday 27th of March at 5pm.

What are the Café-Sciences events?

Café-Science are events co-organised every other month between IFRA-Nigeria and the Alliance Française of Ibadan. Researchers affiliated to IFRA and working on specific project in/on Nigeria will come introduce to general audience their research. The events are open to all to discuss about a specific topic on Ibadan, or Nigeria at large. The sessions aim at opening debates between researchers and the audience.

March 2020 theme: Religious, social and criminal groups in trafficking of Nigerian girls and women

The criminal process that makes the sexual exploitation of Nigerian girls and women possible involves a multitude of interactions between different actors: Individuals, Groups, Institutions. During the course of a study, named PACKING (Protection of migrants and Asylum seekers especially Children and women coming from Nigeria and victims of trafficKING) conducted by IFRA, the research team focused on the role of religious, social and cultist groups in the trafficking processes. Their work is based on long term fieldwork conducted both in Benin City and in Paris. They will present the findings of this project and discuss them with the audience. 

Who will be presenting?

 Dr Elodie Apard is the director of IFRA-Nigeria (French Institute for Research in Africa of Nigeria) and the coordinator of PACKING project. She will be joined by a researcher of the project, Precious Diagboya (PhD candidate at the Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan).
