Who are we?

IFRA-Nigeria is a non-for-profit Institute set up to promote research in the social sciences and the humanities, as well as enhance collaborative work between scholars in France and West Africa.

First established in 1990, the Institute is operating from the Universitie of Ibadan (Institute of African Studies).

The French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nigeria) is offering a series of small grants to support valuable graduate students presenting papers at regional and international conferences in any field of the Social Sciences and the Humanities. The fund is designed to help participants face travel and accommodation costs along with registration fees.

Request for funding MUST respect the following guideline or will not be considered:

Eligibility: Master and PhD students whose abstract papers have already been accepted at a regional or international conferences.

Funding limitations: Grants are limited to the following amounts per successful candidate:

  • 170 000 NGN for regional conferences (i.e, taking place in Africa)

  • 350 000 NGN for international conferences
